SOG Observations: Connecting

The wilderness takes it toll. The winds are harsh. The cold sets deep. The mountains have no trails, marked paths. Thats where Chris Brinlee Jr. set out. Amongst the high grass, tall trees and, towering mountains Chris searched for and killed his first elk. An adventure in self discovery, reliance and, sourcing your own food.

Miles into the backcounty of Colorado, Chris went through valleys and over mountains again and again to track where he thought Elk might be. No easy task.

Conceptualized, Directed, filmed, and edited this short documentary on Chris Brinlee Jr, whom embarked on his first hunt. The purpose of this piece was to understand our place within our ecosystem. That to eat meat, one perhaps shouldnt be able to simply stroll through the super market, but must earn it through the man-hours and endure the brutality of nature to gain that meal.

Fun Fact - After returning from this trip (where I carried over 80lbs for aprox 30miles over mountain terrain, while filming), I returned home and ate over 6K calories in one sitting.
